Not only that, but a September release date was also confirmed for the beloved strategy RPG. But the announcement didn’t catch fans’ attention the most; it’s the message that followed. Shortly after the remake was announced, Yasumi Matsuno, the original script, scenario writer, and editor behind Final Fantasy Tactics, dropped a bombshell of a message that took the gaming community by storm. Spoilers! The message is extremely critical and politically relevant. Yasumi Matsuno reminds us why he created Final Fantasy Tactics in the first place The official account of Final Fantasy on X posted a message from Yasumi Matsuno, which shook the community with its relevance today. Nobody was expecting him to drop an eye-opening message criticising social divide and inequality as a celebratory statement. Still, he did, and we respect him all the more for it. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up — FINAL FANTASY (@FinalFantasy) This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up This message accompanied a series of statements from the game’s director and art director, celebrating the announcement of the remaster. But Yasumi Matsuno took a detour from the traditional approach. Instead of writing celebratory messages in anticipation, he chose to stand up against a world that reeks of divisiveness and instability. Taking the time to make a statement about Japan’s economic stagnation nearly 30 years ago and how it shattered individuals’ dreams is ballsy in itself, but ending it by reminding us that Final Fantasy Tactics is still politically significant today is an insane way to close off a message commemorating a remaster announcement. The other development leads behind the remaster had pretty wholesome and sweet things to say about it, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But Matsuno understands and points out that Final Fantasy Tactics‘ layered story, which he created, is just as applicable today as it was in 1997 due to the social divide that’s still deeply rooted in society. Using a remaster announcement to call out the divided environment of our time is commendable, and Matsuno is justified in doing so because Final Fantasy Tactics has always been politically charged and reflects the real world in more ways than one. Matsuno ends the statement with the powerful line, “The will to resist is in your hands.” Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles includes two versions of the original title On a lighter note, the announcement of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles arrived with tons of new information about the remaster. However, one of the most exciting things about it is the fact that the remaster includes both the classic version of the game and the enhanced version. The enhanced version boasts plenty of new features, like updated visuals, a new user interface, full voice acting in English and Japanese and more. Along with that, players wanting to revisit the original Final Fantasy Tactics title without any enhancements can also do so. This simply shows that the developers care about both new and old players. More remasters should include the option of playing the original title as well. But then again, porting classic games might be too much work, which is why remasters exist in the first place.
