Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection Revives Classic Arcade Fighters with Online Play

Digital Eclipse, the studio that presented masterpieces like Tetris Forever and Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, is now coming back with its next MASSIVE project – Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection. As revealed in the PlayStation State of Play, it is going to be a collection of Mortal Kombat games from the era of Arcade, 16-bit consoles, and even handheld consoles. Wait, there is more for you!

All these classics will also support online play, allowing you to perform fatalities on your friends around the world. With that said, the era of Arcade machines and Tokens is finally coming back, but with a pinch of modernization in it.

All games confirmed to be in Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection so far

As of now, only the following titles are confirmed for the Legacy Kollection, which is coming later this year:

Digital Eclipse will make it a complete documentary for the fans to enjoy. From behind-the-scenes footage to unreleased concept art, it will feature everything. In short, it is going to be an exhibition where everything related to vintage Mortal Kombat games will be put on display.

that both the Arcade and Console versions of the Mortal Kombat games can be played online with rollback netcode. Now, what exactly does this mean?

All the Arcade and Console versions of the games in Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection are decades old. Most of them weren’t even suitable for online multiplayer matches. However, the highly dedicated team of developers at Digital Eclipse has made this a reality. As a cherry on top, they have also implemented the rollback netcode that reduces your chances of experiencing inconsistent gameplay.

What rollback netcode basically does is that it predicts your next move if there is a network delay from your side. For example, if you were blocking attacks in the previous frame, the system will automatically assume that you are going to block next. In case the assumption made by the system is incorrect, it will roll back to the point where it happens, fix that frame, and sync your gameplay to provide a seamless experience.

The efforts put in by the developers to preserve classic fighting games like Mortal Kombat are truly amazing. Especially because the original versions of the games are still untouched. Meaning, you can still have the fun that you used to back in the days, however, with some extra benefits. If everything goes right, Legacy Kollection has the potential to become ******* than the collaboration between Fortnite and Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection will release later in 2025 on platforms like PS4, PS5, Xbox, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam. You can head over to your respective platforms and wishlist it now.
