Everything We Know About Pragmata’s Protagonists, Hugh and Diana

If you tuned in to watch State of Play in June 2025, Pragmata might have caught your attention. After a long series of remakes and sequel releases, Capcom is finally gearing up for a new IP. However, little is known about it, and mere breadcrumbs can be deciphered from the trailers.

If you’re left thinking, what is even happening? Who are these people? Is this a Dead Space-like game? Then don’t feel bad about it, as everyone feels the same. However, to answer some of the questions, we’ve collected some bits and pieces to give you some idea about Capcom’s newest IP. So be seated as we launch into space.

Who are the protagonists in Pragmata?

The idea of Pragmata is similar to Dead Space. But instead of aliens, players have to survive a robot-zombie invasion? Being a big fan of EA’s Dead Space franchise, the resemblance seems uncanny. However, it isn’t the same because there are dual protagonists, Hugh and Diana. Both of them can use their abilities simultaneously.

Hugh is an astronaut trapped in a lunar research station, where he’s trying to return home. The only thing holding him back is robot-zombies, which are a threat to his goal. If you’ve paid close attention, he was almost a goner, but a little blonde girl named Diana jumped in to save his life.

Diana is a nickname Hugh gave to DI0367 to simply interact with her. Of course, it would be hard for humans to remember a serial number. The blonde little buddy is an android who can hack, manipulate enemies, and more to help Hugh escape the space hell.

Players will be able to experience both their abilities together as Diana latches onto Hugh, just like BD-1 did with Cal Kestis from Jedi Fallen Order. Kind of sweet, but from a gameplay perspective, it is sick. The story will likely be about both these helpless souls and their journey to survive. We’ve seen the same with many games, but some cliches are okay.

The first game that comes to mind after seeing the setting has to be Dead Space. Come on, you’re stuck in space and fighting monsters, we all know that. However, there’s one feeling that can’t be shaken off. The beginning of the trailer for Pragmata showcases generative AI capable of creating a world. This might come out as a wild theory, but hear it out.

If you’ve played Evil Within, you’d probably know about people stuck in a simulation. The game shows the idea of generative AI from an imaginary company named Delphi Corporation. Maybe Hugh is stuck in a corrupted simulation that is being shown in the trailer. It’s highly possible that Diana is not even real. Just gonna apologise early on, if this ends up being the plot.

But again, it would be lovely to see another human-robot duo in a game once again. I hope even EA does the same with Titanfall 3 (we still miss you, BT-7274). If the story is done right, we gamers will be able to experience a fine story about a human-robot team-up.

Since the whole gameplay loop of Pragmata will focus on both characters together. It is highly possible, we’ll grow attached to them over time. Losing either one of them would be heartbreaking, but that’s an experience we’ve been missing for a long time. Let’s see what Capcom cooks for us.
