-MGM might be slow on the uptake when it comes to figuring out who will be taking up the mantle of 007 in the next entry into the James Bond canon. However, it seems fans have managed to figure out the new face behind the latest iteration of the character.

IO Interactive, known best for their development of the Hitman franchise, has taken on the responsibility to bring James Bond into a fresh video game installment, one that seems to have brilliant talent essaying the role of the character in the form of Patrick Gibson, best known for his work in Dexter: Original Sin.

Fans have only one name on their lips after watching the 007 First Light trailer

007 First Light is set to be the first James Bond game in quite some time, almost a decade and a half, to be exact. Having the developers of a game like Hitman, which delves heavily into the assassination plots and spycraft, developing the 007 game is nothing short of creative genius. The game, as the name implies, is going to follow a young James Bond as he makes his way to Double O-status.

Playing the role of James Bond in the game (as fans currently believe it to be) is none other than Patrick Gibson, who will have the distinction of playing the youngest James Bond in any media if the rumors are true. While there has been no confirmation from the actor, the developer, or

, a section of the internet seems convinced that the Dexter: Original Sin star has stepped into the shoes of the celebrated MI6 spy.

Casting such a young Bond in the films might also be something that revitalizes the 007 franchise

Daniel Craig played James Bond in a way that endeared the character to a whole new generation of fans, while also receiving the approval of the older generation. With No Time to Die (which also starred Rami Malek), Daniel Craig has officially retired from the role of James Bond, leaving fans wondering when the next installment in the franchise is going to come.

There is also a healthy amount of speculation about who might be the new James Bond, with names such as Idris Alba, Henry Cavill, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson being thrown around based on rumors and meetings that MGM has allegedly had with a few actors.

Patrick Gibson would be a pretty young choice for the role, but this allows for the actor to possibly have a longer run as the character, staving off the casting problem for quite some time. Of course, this also allows the franchise to test the waters with a lot more caution when it comes to how fans would react to him playing Craig’s successor. However, if it is indeed Gibson who is essaying the role of James Bond in the game, he might be a great choice for the films, too, allowing fans to see a younger James Bond play out in a modern setting.

007 First Light has been announced for 2026.
