I-70 to be closed overnight between Silverthorne, Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnels for semi ******

DENVER (KDVR) — A ****** involving semitrailers will keep Interstate 70 closed overnight, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The ****** was reported by CDOT at about 3 p.m. The roadway is closed eastbound at Silverthorne and westbound at the Eisenhower Tunnel. The agency said that westbound I-70 is expected to remain closed overnight to repair approximately 1,500 feet of guardrail and motorists will be detoured over Highway 6 and rejoin I-70 at Silverthorne.

The eastbound lanes of I-70 will also be closed due to one of the semitrucks losing its load of glass products. Motorists will also be detoured over Highway 6 and will rejoin I-70 after the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels.

CDOT warned that motorists should expect delays. The agency reported the ****** initially as a “major ****** involving tractor-trailers at milepost 209.”

Traffic was being detoured onto Highway 6 (Loveland Pass) at exit 216 westbound and exit 205 eastbound, and motorists were warned to expect long delays and advised to take alternate routes.

The Colorado State Patrol said that the initial investigation shows that a semitrailer traveling west on I-70 collided with another semitruck, causing both trucks to enter the eastbound lanes and roll over. One of the trucks hit “additional vehicles,” according to CSP, and three people were transported to a nearby hospital.

CSP said that as of 5:12 p.m., both trucks were blocking the interstate, leading to the detour. There was no estimated time of reopening.
