There Is a Possibility That GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Might Be In the Same Universe

Rockstar Games has been known for putting easter eggs and little details in all of its games. Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) is the next game from the studio, and fans are already noticing details about the game before it even comes out! The leading theories are that the worlds of GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are connected.

Rockstar recently released the second trailer for what is probably the most anticipated game of all time, and there are details in there that you might’ve missed. From weapon manufacturers to presidents on bank notes, you may have missed these little hints in the latest trailer.

Is Rockstar really hinting at a connection between GTA 6 and RDR 2?

The latest and most apparent evidence we’ve seen comes from GTA 6’s weapon design. In the latest trailer for the upcoming game, fans noticed that some of the guns bear the mark of “Duke,” a weapons manufacturer. This is interesting because a company with the same name also manufactures weapons in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s late 1800s setting.

Given Rockstar’s attention to detail, this shared branding is most definitely more than just a callback. While it’s not uncommon for Rockstar to reuse brands between games for stylistic continuity, the exactness of the logo and its prominent placement make it stand out. But that’s not the only thing that fans have found.

There’s another clip from the same trailer with a new hint. In a strip club scene, dollar bills are seen flying through the air, and if you look closely, they feature President Thaddeus Waxman’s face. If that name rings a bell, it’s because Waxman was a fictional president from Red Dead Redemption 2, who governed during the events of the game starting in 1899.

I guess in some way, you could say those games are in a sort of shared universe

This isn’t the first time GTA and Red Dead have flirted with shared lore. If you remember, back in GTA 5, there were books written by a J. Marston, a possible nod to RDR’s John Marston. There’s also the infamous Undead Nightmare mask and Aztec statues that we see in GTA Online, much like RDR 2’s stranger missions and supernatural themes.

But are these just easter eggs? Some fans argue that these could simply be easter eggs, but others point out that since we’ve seen so many of them, Rockstar is just messing with us. So, which of the two is it then? Despite all the clues, Rockstar has never confirmed a shared universe.

In fact, during the 10th anniversary of GTA 3, a

claims that the developers stated that the PS2-era games and modern entries like GTA 4 and 5 were in separate universes. It’s also worth noting that Rockstar jas different approaches with locations.

RDR 2 has mentions of real-world places like Florida, New York, and San Francisco. But in the Grand Theft Auto series, they’re replaced by fictional counterparts like Leonida, Liberty City, and San Andreas. So are these worlds really connected?

Guess we’ll have to find out if there are more connections when GTA 6 comes out on May 26, 2026.
