Constellation and Meta, Merck, Snowflake: Trending Tickers

Now time for some of today’s trending tickers. We are watching Constellation Energy, Merk and Moon Lake immunotherapeutics. And we’ve also got snowflake that we’re keeping on tabs here this morning. First up, let’s go to Constellation Energy. Constellation Energy rallying after meta signs a 20-year agreement to buy nuclear power from the company. Starting in June of 2027, Meta will buy roughly 1.1 gigawatts of energy from the company’s Clean Energy Center in Illinois, keeping the plant in business after it was in danger of closing. Take a look at constellation shares. They are moving higher ripping to the upside by about 12% here this morning and notably within this, they said that they’ve embarked on this understanding and helping to grow nuclear energy in the US, responding to these needs. 20-year agreement with Constellation we mentioned secures the long-term operation of that Clinton Clean Energy Center here. And it seems like there were over 50 qualified submissions that meta had actually gone through and sifted through as part of its RFP, its request for proposal process from a range of participants within the nuclear ecosystem. Constellation, the winner of this deal.

signing a pledge back in March to triple nuclear energy usage worldwide by 2050. So this is just the beginning here for Constellation. If we can take a look quickly at the year to date action here for this stock, obviously a lot of negative sentiment around it surrounding a rollback, an expected rollback in funding from the administration for some green initiatives, and that’s why you saw big dip but after this news and some catalyst from the one big beautiful bill, you can see this stock is now up 40% year to date here.

Well, next up, Merk has held talks to buy Swiss biotech company Moon Lake immunotherapeutics for more than $3 billion according to a report from the Financial Times. Merk reportedly submitted a non-binding offer for Moon Lake earlier this year that was then rejected, but then we did have the talks revived according to people familiar with the matter here. Again, there’s no certainty that a deal would happen, but there is also a possibility that other buyers could potentially emerge going forward here. Perhaps that’s why we’re still seeing this market action be relatively muted for Merk. It’s down about 3/10 of a percent, but we’ve got a huge surge for Moon Lake immunotherapeutics here. Merk, Moon Lake, Goldman and Morgan Stanley declined to comment to the FT, but apparently according to the reports, Morgan Stanley and Goldman are advising Moon Lake on this ***** process here. We do have some analyst commentary coming in. City’s analyst, Samantha Simanco, saying the rejection of the offer is unsurprising given that a $3 billion offer would only represent about a 16% premium here, but they did flag that they’ve thought of Moon Lake as an attractive acquisition target for the company.

Look, this is all because Ketruda has really been the all-star performer for Merk for years. However, you’ve got this patent cliff in 2028 that’s certainly going to be noteworthy for where the business has to start to look across some of the other either R&D that it’s doing in house to really prove dividends or start to make some strategic acquisitions. And this is a really key one here. For those who are wondering just exactly what Moon Lake immunotherapeutics business does here at the end of the day, it’s really coming back to some of how they can attack through antibodies inflammations. And one of the things that they’re kind of antibodies that have been in trials and that they’re looking to get more approvals for as well, everything from rheumatoid arthritis, liver inflammation, neuroinflammation, any inflammatory illnesses is exactly what this company has really been prioritizing some of their own solutions around. And we’ll see what more advancements they’re able to bring to market and if this deal gets done at the end of the day.

Also, finally, Snowflake agreed to buy database startup Crunchy Data according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal is valued at roughly $250 million. The company is hoping to attract more customers that want to build their own AI agents. There’s taken a look at Snowflake. Snowflake shares are up by about 4/10 of a percent. Usually the company making the acquisition, you see them actually move lower on the deal announcement. However, investors could be cheering this one and the size of the deal strategically and how immediately accretive or a runway it has to be a growth driver for the business as well.

Yeah, a business that has had a very rosy 2025 thus far. I believe the shares are up around 36% year to date. It’s competitor Databricks also involved in a similar acquisition with the company Neon earlier this year. So it’s interesting to see Snowflake trying to kind of do the same thing with this acquisition of Crunchy Data going forward here and a hope to kind of simplify the process of moving data into Snowflake, which they see as a potential competitive advantage.
