Virginia high school teacher arrested, accused of receiving inappropriate photos, grooming minors

) — Detectives arrested a Fauquier County high school teacher and football coach on Monday after receiving reports of inappropriate relations with students.

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) said that the arrest of Gary Robert “Bobby” Hix, 28, followed an investigation that included interviews and a review of electronic devices and social media.

FCSO said that detectives determined that Hix was using the app Snapchat to contact students or football players under his supervision. He would ask for nude images from these individuals, who were both minors and adults.

FCSO said that Hix also groomed minors, gaining a child’s trust by isolating them or giving them gifts and telling them secrets to make them feel special. FCSO said that this makes a situation where “abuse seems normal or acceptable.”

“The trust families place in us to protect and care for their children is sacred, and any violation of that trust is intolerable. We are cooperating fully with the Sheriff’s Office and taking all appropriate personnel actions to address this matter and ensure the continued safety of our students,” Major Warner, Superintendent of Fauquier County Public Schools, said in a statement.

The Sheriff’s Office said that the investigation into this case was still ongoing. Detectives believe that there may be other victims as well. FCSO asks that anyone who may have received inappropriate messages or images from Hix contact its Criminal Investigations Division at 540-422-8650.
