Lucasfilm isn’t giving up on its passion to create new Indiana Jones games, as the studio has been doing it for a long time. Not only that, but fans have always loved an Indy-focused game, and the recent success of The Great Circle displays it. While it’s an adventure game at core, it did something different. It allowed players to become the character and look at the world through their eyes.

It might be possible that fans will get to experience more through Indy’s eyes, as Lucasfilm Games’ executive producer, sparks some hope with his recent interview. Not only that, he has also expressed his excitement about creating Indiana Jones games. Since the franchise is close to them, Lucasfilm Games likes to keep a slot free for more. Moreover, with the success of The Great Circle, they were glad to showcase the passion they hold for the franchise.

I think as to why we still make Indiana Jones games, well we’re all fans. So I think there’s absolutely always a place for Indy in gaming, and we were lucky that we had a chance to prove that with The Great Circle.

Indiana Jones has always been the pillar of the action-adventure genre

When Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was first revealed, players were quick to judge and called it an Uncharted clone. However, people forget that Uncharted happened way after Indiana Jones. Rather, PlayStation’s take on the genre is fairly similar to that of films featuring Indy. The only thing that made it shine was the polished gameplay with story cinematics.

Let’s talk history, even though it might be boring to some. Raiders of the Lost Ark was the first video game adaptation of Indiana Jones, released in 1982. More releases followed for decades, and thanks to that, people eventually got their hands on Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb (2003). This was during the PlayStation 2 era, and it was loved by many.

Sadly, the franchise was soon forgotten with the next generation of gaming, and Uncharted shadowed Indy games completely. Regardless, Rome wasn’t built in one day, and it was because of the Indiana Jones games, Uncharted came to be. Now that it is making a comeback, people should know who came before.
