The Problem That Rainbow Six Is Rewarding Players to Fix Has No Permanent Solution

Cheaters are dreadful foes for any live-server shooter game, and in the case of Rainbow Six Siege, it is no different. Despite Ubisoft upgrading its anti-cheat system, a huge chunk of it depends on the players who are actively supporting the title. Having the community do a clean-up job for you is no permanent solution, and that has to change.

Community-driven anti-cheat measures aren’t new; in fact, Valve did the same with Counter-Strike Global Offensive. Even after implementing such measures, the cheating problem remains unchecked. If Ubisoft continues to do so, it might pose a huge risk in the future, and they shouldn’t gamble.

Having a community-powered anti-cheat only proves the slacking of developers, and Rainbow Six Siege should be called out

Almost a week from now, Ubisoft will be making its tactical shooter as a free-to-play title, and renaming it to Rainbow Six Siege X. But, adding another alphabet to the name won’t fix the issues it already has. Also, it’s not a new story that Ubisoft is a mess, and their development team is lacking.

With almost every seasonal showcase, Rainbow Six Siege developers always bragged about having a top-tier anti-cheat. They show data to support their claims; however, reality shows a grim picture that most of the community knows of. Be it consoles or PC, the cheater problem persists, and it isn’t a good thing.

If you browse through the r/Rainbow6 subreddit, you’ll find many instances where players have shown the number of cheaters that got banned due to their reports. If their R6 ShieldGuard is so advanced, isn’t it supposed to catch these cheaters red-handed regardless?

A user on r/Rainbow6, going by the name PoloniumR6, displayed that their reports caused the banning of 21 cheaters in a matter of three days. That’s just one user’s experience, and there are many more situations like this. If the math is done right, the percentage of cheaters is quite a lot, especially in high-ranked lobbies.

If your intuitions are right, you’ll get MMR rollback, which increases your rank. But, does it ultimately solve the problem that has been persisting during Rainbow Six Siege‘s lifetime?

Before going free-to-play, the number of cheaters was already huge; even paid users faced this problem. What will the situation be like after going free? This might be a tactical shooter game, but it almost feels like gambling, which it shouldn’t be.

Are the developers of Rainbow Six Siege incapable of doing what is required?

There shouldn’t be a hint of doubt that Rainbow Six Siege is one of the most unique shooter experiences one can have. However, the same should remain when it comes to questioning the capability of the development team, which has always been in shambles.

Hell, there are still audio bugs after “three years of development.” What has been in development, dumb ways to kill the franchise further? Rainbow Six Siege X might sound exciting, but there are certain things that are absolutely necessary: a good anti-cheat and bug-free gameplay. Both of which seem to be missing for this title.

The development mess that Rainbow Six Siege has always been makes it harder to trust the process. Every single season raises hope that they are taking the right steps, only to find out it’s backwards. If the cheating problem persists after going free, there’s no doubt that it will be the final nail in the coffin for them.

Do you think Ubisoft will ever figure out how to make its anti-cheat system effective? Will they repeat the same chapters of their mess with a brand new twist with Rainbow Six Siege X? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
