Fallout Season 2 Needs to Bring the One Weapon That Todd Howard and Bethesda Failed to Do in S1

Fallout season one debuted all the way back in April 2023, and even though video game adaptations had earned a bad name in the past, the TV series managed to master everything. Right from storytelling elements to compelling characters, it had everything that made the Bethesda game so iconic.

Considering the success of the first season, it’s not a surprise that fans are all aboard the hype train for Fallout Season 2. Its production is almost wrapped up, and its release window is confirmed. Although we don’t have a shred of an idea what it might bring to the table, as long as it features one of the most iconic Fallout weapons, its success is basically guaranteed.

Why this iconic weapon must be in Fallout Season 2

The post-apocalyptic world of the Fallout franchise has a number of weapons for players to find and modify. With powerful weapons, enemies that pose a threat in the wasteland can be turned into mincemeat in a matter of seconds, and let’s be honest, this is pretty satisfying for obvious reasons.

One of the best weapons you can get your hands on in the Fallout series is undoubtedly the Gauss Rifle. What’s so special about this rifle? Well, it’s the fact that it uses magnetic coils to accelerate projectiles at extreme speeds. In simple language, it can delete bulky enemies on the battlefield. It’s a standout rifle in the wasteland due to its armor penetration and long-range capabilities.

Gauss rifles are mostly used in the verse by Enclave soldiers and even the Brotherhood of Steel in games such as Fallout 4. We’ve also seen the weapon in the hands of various NCR veterans. This weapon is a fan favorite, so it was shocking that Todd Howard and his team kept it out of the first season of the TV series.

It’s speculated that the Fallout TV didn’t have the budget for SFX, and that’s the reason why many energy weapons, including the Gauss rifle, weren’t featured. If you rewatch the show, you’ll notice Moldaver holding a laser pistol, but it was never used on-screen. The lack of energy weapons seems to be a subtle cost-cutting measure in the first season.

This isn’t surprising, as video game adaptations often failed, and Prime Video likely didn’t feel that strongly about the Fallout series either, so enough resources for such additions weren’t allocated. However, now that the Fallout series is the talk of the town, there’s no reason to abandon such crucial weapons of the post-apocalyptic world in the show.

In the last couple of months, we’ve seen Walt Goggins going everywhere and hyping the Fallout Season 2. According to the actor, it’s going to be much better than whatever we saw in the first season. That was quite exciting to hear, but fans were frustrated as it wasn’t confirmed when the second season would drop.

Fortunately, it’s been finally confirmed that Fallout Season 2 will be released in December. That’s a big relief for fans, as many believed that the show might not release before 2026. What’s really shocking is that Prime Video has confirmed that it has already greenlit a third season.

At a time when we’re seeing more shows getting canceled left and right, it’s refreshing to know that the Bethesda series wouldn’t suffer the same fate. Let’s hope Howard and his team can also roll out a new entry in the franchise to coincide with the release of the new season to generate even more buzz among fans.
