Buccs’ Aaron Ralph claims the three-point king throne as Buccs split road trip in round nine

The Geraldton Buccaneers travelled to Perth over the weekend, splitting their road trip with a win against Lakeside before overtime heartbreak against Willetton on Sunday.

Aaron Ralph stole the show as the Buccs and the NBL1 West celebrated the star Bucc as he surpassed the record of most made three-points in the history of the league.

Going into the first game against Lakeside, the Buccs’ star forward needed five more three-pointers to break the previous record set by Ryan Neill of 1097.

Ralph managed to claim the throne of the all-time three-point king in the NBL1 West in the first half of their game on Saturday against Lakeside.

Liam Hunt led the scoring duties for the Buccs in their win against Lakeside with 27 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in what was an impressive game for the Buccs big man.

Johny Narkle secured yet another double-double with 15 points, 12 assists, five rebounds and four steals while Verle Williams continued his impressive work with 17 points, eight assists, three steals and a block.

The contest started as a close battle with neither team able to pull away. The Buccs went into the first break up by one point in a high-scoring opening *******, 28-27.

That would be the closest that Lakeside would get to the Buccs as they ran away with it in the second quarter and ended the match 107-87 winners.

The Buccs then turned their attention to their Sunday clash against old foes Willetton, as the they looked to collect two from two on the road.

It unfortunately wasn’t to be for the Buccs as the Tigers managed to snatch a win in overtime, with neither team willing to budge after regulation time.

It was a close contest throughout the entire battle with the score failing to advance beyond seven points.

Buccs’ Josh Keyes was the leading scorer for the game with 26 points as well as amassing 10 rebounds, one steal and one block. Hunt chalked up a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

With neither team able to pull away, the final score finished at 88 apiece as the game was forced into overtime. It was as close as it could get with the Buccs and the Tigers trading blows, with Willetton managing to claw their way over the line by four points.

The final score after overtime was 103-99.

The Buccs now sit on fifth on the ladder with a 7-4 record and face fourth-placed Joondalup Wolves at Activewest Stadium on Saturday, June 7.
