It’s finally over, Helldivers 2 players. That’s right, after a tiring 11-day campaign, we’ve finally managed to take down the Illuminate and save the Super Earth. Tyranny simply doesn’t stand a chance in front of the forces of democracy.

A new dispatch from High Command confirms that the Illuminate have, in fact, withdrawn from Super Earth’s battlespace. In celebration of this incredible victory, Helldivers 2 players have decided to recreate the iconic V-J Day in Times Square!

If you’re unaware, V-J Day in Times Square is one of the most iconic pictures in history. It captures a U.S. Navy sailor kissing a nurse right in front of New York’s Times Square. What was the special occasion? Well, it was to celebrate the end of World War 2. It was a truly special moment for the history books.

Helldivers 2 players went quite literally through hell defending against those advancing squids. They had to set up their defenses, drop their entries, and rest their weary fingers on the triggers of HMGs and Erupters. At last, they emerged victorious and took to r/Helldivers2 to celebrate the moment by bringing V-Day Day in Times Square to Helldivers 2.

One of the many Mega Cities that players had to defend during the battle against the Illuminate was Equality-On-Sea, based on the real-world location of Shanghai.

We saw thousands of Helldivers jumping in and fighting to save the city. Unfortunately, Equality-On-Sea was lost despite the player’s efforts, with the percentage meter reaching 99.9738%.

That’s quite a specific number and helps us understand why gamers are review-bombing Helldivers 2 on

. The fact that they were so close to snatching victory has angered them. There’s a bombardment of reviews referencing “99.97883%”.

Going by the negative reviews, it seems like players want to craft their own stories rather than follow a fixed script. They believe that no matter what they do to save Equality-On-Sea, it will always be ripped apart. Players see their collective effort as a wasted miracle.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen Helldivers 2 getting review-bombed. It’s almost a regular thing for the game at this point. It even dropped to “Mostly Negative” at one point, so fighting back against Mixed reviews won’t be a hard task.
