Seven Spies brings espionage and social deduction to mobile

When it comes to the social deduction genre, classics such as Werewolf or ****** are so timeless that they really don’t need any alterations when they make their way to mobile. But with Seven Spies, developer Michael Conkin has chosen to exploit all the advantages of the digital platform with a wholly fresh, espionage-filled take.

The setup is simple: you and a group of three to six friends take on the role of secret agents. Your mission is to explore an embassy while interrogating various individuals to uncover the location of bombs set up by the criminal organisation, Cipher, ideally before they go off.

The twist, of course, being that some of your allies are in fact double agents for Cipher. But it’s not just that! You’ll also have access to some seriously strange spy gadgets to use to your advantage, such as explosive pens, night-vision glasses and others straight out of Q-Branch.

What a pity, Mr Bond

There’s, of course, a lot more intricacy to the rules. You’ll take your actions simultaneously after a brief window to select what you do, and agents only have a limited number of turns to discover where the bombs are located. Meanwhile, it’s up to the Cipher agents to delay or just get rid of them.

But I think what most of us are interested in is the inclusion of said gadgets. And while this may not be GoldenEye, it does offer some thematic inclusions that are otherwise missing from a lot of social deduction experiences, even on digital.
