A weather warning has been issued after a severe thunderstorm was detected near Joondalup and Wanneroo.

area at 4.52pm on Monday.

The thunderstorm is set to bring heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.

It’s forecast to move southeast and will affect Ballajura, Tapping and Wangara by 5.05pm and Guildford, Hazelmere and Midland by 5.20pm.

A second warning was issued by the BoM at 4.49pm for people in parts of the Lower West district.

“A trough associated with a slow moving low pressure system is crossing the southwest of WA. This is helping produce thunderstorms with a risk of heavy rainfall that is expected to continue into the evening,” the BoM warning stated.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Perth, Kalamunda, Midland, Mundaring, Scarborough and Yanchep.”

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people in the warning zone to follow the below:

If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home.If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.Slow down and turn your *********** on.Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.
