Full Circle Therapies’ new $3m therapy centre is close to completion

A few unexpected speed bumps may have delayed the project a few months, but Full Circle Therapies’ new $3 million therapy centre is nearing completion.

The purpose-built building, which will host allied health specialists including speech and occupational therapists, is now expected to be open in August, with a new nature playground following close behind.

Full Circle Therapies chair Luke Bowler said delays with a demolition permit and a septic tank in the middle of the construction site had slowed things down, but so far no budget blowouts had occurred.

He said the service had 79 children on the waitlist for a speech therapist, and another 26 for occupational therapists, but this was much less than the waitlist of 170-200 it had a few years ago.

With the new building able to accommodate more staff, Mr Bowler said he hoped Full Circle would one day no longer have a waitlist.

“It’ll be lightyears, the difference between what we had and what we will have,” he said.

“The staff can host their therapy in ******* spaces with much more privacy.

“The outcomes for the kids will be better, and the biggest thing for all the families is the fact we can employ more therapists and more speech therapists.

“If we can get them to Kalgoorlie, that is, but having this facility instead of some transportable building is going to help massively.”

The Kalgoorlie Miner toured the new facility last week alongside Minister for Goldfields-Esperance David Michael, Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent, and MLC Lauren Cayoun.

Mr Michael said it was an exciting project for families in the area, and he was looking forward to it being up and running.

Ms Kent, who helped secure the $2.8m in State Government funding for the project, said she was blown away by how fast the building had gone up.

“When you see something come together like this, it really pulls at your heartstrings,” she said.

“Knowing that there are kids that need this special treatment and knowing that with this centre they will be able to find more staff . . . that is just why I do my job — to see the difference that can be made for the community and for families who will not have to travel to Perth to get treatment.”
