Old Helldivers 2 Election Leaks Resurface After Super Earth President’s Death

The president of Super Earth is dead, and in typical Helldivers 2 fashion, this shocking loss is being used as both a narrative climax and the start of a new chapter in our war for Managed Democracy. As the ashes settle from the ongoing Illuminate invasion of Super Earth, a new president has apparently been elected.

According to a renowned leaker, it might be one of three candidates that have previously been leaked. But since the president has already been elected, when were the votes held? And why didn’t we get to choose? Players are now asking about player agency in Super Earth’s leadership and whether any of us ever really had a choice at all.

The president’s death happened during the climactic defense of Prosperity City, the capital of Super Earth and symbolic heart of its so-called “Managed Democracy.” According to in-game messages, the President was killed by Illuminate forces while heroically defending the Presidential Security Bunker with nothing more than a pistol.

While many players have saluted this sacrifice, some have started to question the official message, suggesting it may have been a false flag operation or misinformation engineered by the Illuminate. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about. Because shortly afterwards, known leaker @Iron_S1ghts posted about some old leaks regarding an election.

According to the leaks, players would’ve been able to vote for their preferred candidate through an Election Terminal aboard their Super Destroyer. This would’ve fit thematically with Helldivers 2’s satirical take on the government with a patriotic finish.

The game says we already have a new president, though, so what’s next?

The leaks suggest that three candidates may have once been part of an interactive voting system. The first candidate, Winston Richman Jr. Sr. of the Justice Party, is backed by the Ulterior Corporation and promotes medical policies. His slogans suggest a philosophical commitment to improving the well-being of citizens.

Then there’s Gun Ingbrit Morgunsdottir, who represents the Freedom Party and is supported by the Strohmann Corporation. She campaigns for universal armament with slogans like “A gun in every hand means a soldier in every home.” Lastly, there’s Daiyu Hatchet of the Prosperity Party, backed by Permacure. She supports a corporate utopia based on expansion and technological advancement.

It’s pretty ironic given the satire at the heart of Helldivers 2’s lore. The game has consistently poked fun at authoritarianism disguised as freedom, most notably through its infamous “Managed Democracy.” According to a new in-game message, a new President has already been elected without any Helldivers getting a chance to vote.

But what does this mean for the future? If the Illuminate invasion is nearing its end, and we have a new president, what does it mean? Well, Arrowhead Game Studios has been very cryptic about what’s next. Maybe we’ll get a new trailer for the next update and story beat at the Summer Game Fest next week.
