However, did you know that one particular scene caused CDPR to have their longest email chain just to get it right? It might sound a bit cheeky, but they really wanted the game to be perfect. Why talk about it almost ten years later? Well, it never saw the light of day until now, as developers kept it a secret. Now that the game is popular and it has been a long time since, they felt it was okay to share the story now. This is the unusual story of CDPR while creating The Witcher 3. Who knew a pair of rear cheeks could cause so much trouble within a company? However, it took a lot of discussion to get everything perfect. In celebration of the tenth anniversary of The Witcher 3, Phillip Weber shared their experience while making the game, especially the bathtub scene. It’s a bit hilarious, but developers were actually serious about deciding how much of Geralt’s butt should be showing. Moreover, they even discussed how should his butt look like, since they were proceeding with partial nudity with Geralt for the first time. All this discussion caused the biggest internal email thread at CDPR. I don’t know if it’s appropriate to talk about it, but one of the longest email threads in our company history was about the question [of] how naked Geralt should be in his bath scene? ‘When he gets up, how much butt should we show? There are other elusive moments in the game, but those didn’t take much time for CDPR, unlike the bathtub scene. Since the screen shows the character from the rear, they didn’t want to present the players with a full-blown cheek on the screen. Instead, they chose to reach a “middle point,” where it’s there and not at the same time. In the end, I think we chose a good middle point. We showed nudity in a kind of European way. It might seem like an insider joke within CDPR, but it actually shows how much dedication they put into making that game special. It is more evident when they were discussing gating in video games, and whether or not they should do the same. Are video games obecessed with butt perfection? With the story of Geralt’s butt coming to light, it also raises questions whether developers are too concerned about character rears. For instance, Grand Theft Auto 6 has some insane jiggle physics, which is noticeable to everyone’s eyes. Do people care about it that much? It’s just a video game, right? In recent years, gaming has been largely focused on making it more realistic and close to life. However, getting even little details like rear cheeks could be taking things a bit too far. Not complaining, but maybe the time could have been spent in a better way, instead of satisfying gooners. There are already plenty of games that have been goon-baiting players, looking right at you, Marvel Rivals. But again, it probably cannot be stopped. But again, for the sake of discussion, maybe that much attention to detail is not required in video games. Just saying. Do you think game developers should be less bothered with perfecting bongos in their games? Do you think this is the very element missing from games for a long time to make them a masterpiece?
