The arrival of a new season in Marvel Rivals signals the ****** landing of a new meta, whether players like it or not. While Season 2 is far from over, the mid-season update that unleashed Ultron on the Hellfire Gala also cemented a flying meta for the game.

Ultron, being the first flying strategist, further established fliers as the meta for the mid-season, which isn’t terrible, but Vanguard mains are understandably not happy about it. You see, the tanks in the game can’t fly, so fighting against a team comprising more than two fliers is infuriating.

Players have wasted no time in insta-locking Ultron and other fliers, flying around maps and raining hell from above. But Vanguard mains, on the other hand, are forced to stay on the ground as none of them can truly fly.

Sure, Thor can travel short distances in the air, and Hulk can leap, but are they viable against a team of fliers who are constantly moving around with the freedom to go anywhere in the air? Absolutely not, and it’s high time NetEase added a flying tank to level the playing field.

Some tanks do have ranged attacks, but they’re not enough when the entire opponent team is shifting positions in the air, terrorising the ones below. Vanguard mains in the Marvel Rivals subreddit are in shambles, creating posts about how NetEase dropped the ball with the flying meta and tanks having to suffer for it.

DPS insta-lockers aren’t doing their jobs well either in taking down fliers from above, on top of not switching when the team composition isn’t optimal in the first place. Additionally, the nerfs inflicted on tanks like Captain America and Emma Frost aren’t making the situation any better.

Since a flying meta is the standard for Marvel Rivals Season 2.5, this disparity isn’t washing away anytime soon. Hopefully, NetEase brings about some changes that benefit Vanguards in Season 3.

It’s nearly impossible to combat fliers as Vanguard mains in Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals, but the inclusion of the word “nearly” in this sentence isn’t a mistake. While tanks cannot truly fly, their skills can be used cleverly to take down fliers on the opponent team.

Almost every tank in the game has a ranged attack, and using that might be the only move against fliers. But even that isn’t viable, since their range is shorter than Wolverine’s. So as a tank against a flying culprit, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to main Magneto, Doctor Strange, or Peni Parker.

Not only are their kit strong enough to take down fliers, but their primary fire is a ranged attack; all you need to do is get a bit close to them. Utilise Magneto and Doctor Strange’s shield and Peni’s webs to close distance, then unload your kit on the fliers. It’s not much, but it’s honest work.
