How Elden Ring Nightreign Is Borrowing From Sekiro to Boost Its Solo Mode

Elden Ring Nightreign is already an overnight success among Souls veterans and new players looking to explore the world of Limveld. Selling over a whopping 2 million copies in less than 24 hours, the game has overcome all odds, just like all aspiring Nightfarers.

However, FromSoftware may have dropped the hardest boss in Soulsborne history, nearly impossible to beat by many in Elden Ring Nightreign. No, it’s not the fictional Glaive Master Hodir, it’s something more absurd: having friends. The game is meant to be played with friends, but what else can you do if you have none?

Thankfully, you can run the game solo, and the next patch is enhancing the solo experience by taking a page directly out of Sekiro’s book.

“Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” to be added next week for solo mode in Elden Ring Nightreign

FromSoftware has already planned balance patches for Elden Ring Nightreign in the coming weeks, starting with Patch 1.02, which will significantly boost the solo experience. Currently, the solo expeditions are adding another layer of difficulty to an already tough experience, and you don’t get much luck either with solo queueing.

But don’t you worry, FromSoftware has got you covered. Here’s what Elden Ring’s official account on X tweeted:

The following improvements for solo expeditions will be added to the game:
– The effect “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat”, which allows revival once per night boss battle, will be added to solo expeditions.
– The amount of runes gained will be increased.
Thank you for your support.

The solo experience is getting buffed with the addition of “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat”, which will make getting one-shot by night bosses less painful, as you’ll have a second chance to turn the tide of the battle. You’ll be able to self-revive once per night boss battle while playing solo.

Now, don’t get too excited about the day bosses because the death penalty remains the same, with no choice but to start the run over. However, solo Nightfarers will now have a greater chance to seize the night.

This self-revival mechanic is right out of Sekiro, another one of FromSoftware’s finest. The mechanic worked pretty similarly, except you could revive yourself twice or even thrice if the revive ability was filled, which could be done by dealing deathblows or killing bosses.

There’s a reason the game is called Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and it’s pretty rad for the developers to borrow the game’s mechanics to make the solo experience more rewarding in Elden Ring Nightreign. Other than that, the amount of runes gained in solo expeditions will be increased to make those runs viable.

Post-launch support is in full effect for Elden Ring Nightreign

With Patch 1.02 arriving next week, the post-launch support for Elden Ring Nightreign has begun. This is expected as the title made an incredible debut on Steam, with more than 300,000 concurrent players on day one.

See the two fearsome warriors taking on a boss in the image above? That’s going to be a reality very soon, as FromSoftware is considering the addition of duo support to the game. The game can currently be played either in trios or solo, with no option to play duos.

The game’s director, Junya Ishizaki, admitted that they overlooked the importance of having duo support when developing the game. But rest assured, it will be added shortly, it’s only a matter of time.

So, what do you think about Elden Ring Nightreign taking a page out of Sekiro to improve solo expeditions? Do you think this will motivate more players to do solo runs? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below.
