Randolph Middle School principal suspended with pay, marking second CMS disciplinary action this May

CHARLOTTE (

) — For the second time this month, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools principal has been suspended with pay, leaving some with more questions than answers.

Jennifer Schroeder, the principal of Randolph Middle School, was suspended with pay on May 20, according to CMS records released to Queen City News.

The district has not shared publicly why she was suspended, and no disciplinary actions are currently listed in her record. This latest development follows a similar situation earlier this month involving Ardrey Kell High School Principal Jamie Brooks.

Families at Randolph were notified through a message from CMS, but like the communication sent to Ardrey Kell families, it did not mention the suspension directly.

Instead, the message stated that “our principal is away from campus at this time,” and that additional leadership support had been put in place during this “busy testing season.”

Schroeder, 46, has been with CMS since 2004 and most recently served as principal of Randolph Middle School after transferring from Crestdale Middle School in July 2024. Her current annual salary is $142,383.50, according to CMS records. Over her 21-year career, she moved from a high school math teacher to assistant principal, and eventually to her current role as principal.

Though CMS said day-to-day operations remain unaffected, the lack of clear information has frustrated some parents. The situation echoes concerns raised by families at Ardrey Kell, where Principal Brooks was suspended with pay on May 2.

Parents there only learned about the suspension from the news about three weeks later, sparking a petition calling for better communication from CMS.

“They need to step up, in this communication department, they need to step up,” said Ardrey Kell parent Kiran Fijuwara, to Queen City News this week. “When you don’t know, you’re going to assume, and they say you should never assume.”

So far, CMS has not shared any reasons for either principal’s suspension, and district leaders have declined to provide additional details, citing personnel privacy.

The principal of Ardrey Kell High School, Jamie Brooks, is now retiring. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools announced the news on Thursday. Her retirement is effective June 1.
