It’s a dream come true for many fans as this is one of Nintendo’s most iconic franchises. So far, we haven’t received any official names for the movie’s cast. However, rumors suggest that Hunter Schafer is being eyed for the role of Zelda in the live-action adaptation. Considering her physical resemblance to the video game princess, she is undoubtedly the right choice. However, Schafer’s casting can also help Nintendo by allowing it to reconnect with fans after the misrepresentation of the transgender community in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Controversial transgender representation in Breath of the Wild Video games aren’t the best medium for the representation of transgender people. However, in recent years, we’ve seen developers make major strides and properly represent and tackle the issues faced by the transgender community in their games. Unfortunately, Nintendo wasn’t able to do this with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In the game, Link needs to enter Gerudo Town in order to gain access to the Divine Beasts. As men aren’t allowed inside, Link disguises himself as a Geurdo woman to sneak in. The idea of Link crossdressing wasn’t controversial and, in fact, appreciated by the fans. The real issue was how Nintendo portrayed Link’s encounter with Vilia. Villa in Breath of the Wild is presented as a woman who wears the traditional Gerudo attire. However, one of the NPCs describes her as a “man” who somehow gained access to the town even though Vilia identifies herself as a female. For some reason, the game mocks her identity through various interactions that suggest that Vilia is a man who’s pretending to be a man. All of this ends in a scene where a gust of wind exposes Vilia’s beard, which shocks Link. It’s meant to be a joke to make players laugh. However, this representation by Nintendo implies that facial hair invalidates a woman’s dignity. It reinforces the idea that transgender women who don’t conform to society’s traditional gender norms can’t be considered “real women.” This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Breath of the Wild. (Image via Nintendo) Gamers couldn’t believe such a disgraceful representation of transgender women in a video game that’s as popular as Breath of the Wild. They lost their trust in Nintendo and demanded that Nintendo make better moves in the future when it comes to representation. How can Hunter Schafer save Nintendo? She’s got incredible acting abilities, as proven by her roles in Neon 2024’s horror Cuckoo and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. However, Schafer is best known for her role in HBO’****** series Euphoria. She drew praise for her role as a transgender high school student, Jules Vaughn. Schafer’s portrayal of Jules showcased genuine emotion and complexity as she helped normalize all the trans narratives. She offered visibility and reliability for the ****** community, which fans applauded. Even though it’s just a rumor that Schafer is the pick for Zelda in the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, the ****** community is filled with joy. They believe that she’s the right choice for transgender representation in mainstream Hollywood and will help break all the narratives and agendas against the community. Considering Nintendo’s misrepresentation of the transgender community in Breath of the Wild, casting Schafer could offer the company a chance at redemption.
