For a long time, Hidetaka Miyazaki had been directing each of FromSoftware’s hits like Sekiro, ****** Souls, and other titles many love. However, with the newest spinoff, FromSoft is giving him some ease by passing the mantle to a new director. Junya Ishizaki was appointed as the director of Elden Ring Nightreign, but the path wasn’t easy. Moreover, taking on the task of creating a new gameplay out of ol’ familiar is definitely challenging. It’s not an assumption; Ishizaki himself admits how challenging the task is. Building the Elden Ring world with both roguelike and Soulslike elements was a huge task in Nightreign This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up FormSoftware has faced massive consequences previously for letting others direct the game. For instance, Dark Souls 2 still causes a lot of debate among fans, as it wasn’t directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. However, the man himself admits it was a good game, and it led to the creation of Elden Ring. Without that, it wouldn’t have been possible. The controversy behind Dark Souls 2 caused FromSoft to let him handle the genre for a long time. However, things changed after Elden Ring, as Junya Ishizaki was tasked to create a spinoff. Thus, FromSoft took a gamble yet again to see if a new direction would work. He was tasked to build upon the idea of Elden Ring, but he also had to add a roguelike spin. Ishizaki expressed his This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up about it. Especially, he talked about what went through his mind while “revamping” the game design. Everything I had a hard time with. Especially when it comes to revamping the game design from past works and changing the rules significantly, it was important to see whether the game was formed or how good or bad it was as a game. There’s also a good reason why Elden Ring Nightreign has been designed to be played in a group of three. While there are people who’d taken on the challenge of playing it solo, all battles are balanced with a three-man-powered squad in mind. Here’s what Ishizaki said about the balancing adjustments he had applied for the game. I can’t increase the number of people in this series to enjoy the fun and well-being of heavy bargaining with the enemy. On the other hand, given the spread and width of the battle, and the realization of the blurred and unexpected developments that occur in the repetition, I would like to increase the number of people. When considering these balances, we concluded that the three were optimal. FromSoftware finally letting others direct their passion into newer games is commendable. Elden Ring Nightreign proves that others can do the franchise of FromSoftware justice, without facing much backlash from the community. Taking the risk of letting Miyazaki stand this one out, so that others may flourish. Junya Ishizaki made sure Nightreign doesn’t feel too different from the OG formula Junya Ishizaki expressed that it was challenging to make it feel familiar to their other Soulslike alternatives. He didn’t want Elden Ring Nightreign to feel like a different game altogether, as it was incorporating roguelike ideas. Which is why the team had to go through a lot of trials and errors to find the right spot. We could have made the changes without thinking about it, but I think the most difficult part was finding the balance to make sure that the game would not end up being ‘a completely different game’ or ‘not a good one’ despite the name Elden Ring. Elden Ring Nightreign might be a spin-off title, but it has the soul of all the games previously. It’s a love letter to the fans, who have enjoyed Soulsborne games, and getting them to enjoy the new world together. Are you enjoying Elden Ring Nightreign with your friends?
