Elden Ring Nightreign Crushes 2025’s Biggest RPGs in Day-One Steam Player Count

Rise Nightfarers, as the age of Elden Ring Nightreign has officially begun on all platforms. Being a departure from the traditional Soulslike formula, the success of the game wasn’t guaranteed, but the title seems to have defied all expectations when it comes to day-one player count.

Despite all the doubts and skepticism surrounding FromSoftware’s first expedition into the world of multiplayer co-op, Elden Ring Nightreign’s earth-shattering launch day player count on Steam has defeated even the greatest of RPGs released this year.

Elden Ring Nightreign begins its journey on Steam with a peak of over 313,000 concurrent players

Launch day numbers for multiplayer titles have always been an important aspect to determine a game’s longevity, and Elden Ring Nightreign has seemingly excelled in that department. According to

, Nightreign reached a peak of over 313,000 players on Steam in its launch day.

To say that it’s a great start would be a grave understatement as its day-one player count on Steam has beaten behemoths like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (256,206), Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (121,422), and even The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered (216,784).

A multiplayer title beating out this year’s top RPGs? Only FromSoftware can do something like this. Elden Ring had a concurrent player count of over 953,000 players at launch, but that’s for obvious reasons. Nightreign, being an entirely experimental multiplayer Souls title and having more than 300,000 players at launch, is nothing short of impressive.

When the game was initially revealed, the multiplayer and co-op aspects of it were a huge turn-off for traditional Souls players, and some thought that they were milking the Elden Ring IP by making Nightreign.

However, these numbers prove that FromSoftware can do no wrong and are allergic to low player count. The fact that it just costs $40 is another reason why players aren’t shying away from buying it. Miyazaki himself acknowledged that the game was a risky venture, which is why it’s much smaller in scope than Elden Ring.

But with these numbers on PC, he can rest knowing that the goodwill of his IP still stands strong. With a phenomenal start to Elden Ring Nightreign’s journey on Steam, only time will tell if the numbers go up in the coming days. The post-launch weekend is always crucial, but with these numbers, Elden Ring Nightreign‘s success is nothing but guaranteed.

What does this mean for the future of Elden Ring Nightreign?

It’s hard to determine a game’s future just from looking at launch day player count, as it could go up or down any second. However, Elden Ring Nightreign’s day-one numbers are a positive sign for the game’s post-launch support.

Over 210,000 players are in the game on Steam at the time of writing. It’s worth noting that these numbers are just on Steam, and the launch day numbers for PlayStation and Xbox are still unknown, but we can assume the title is performing well on those platforms, too. We’ll likely get an update next week.

If players don’t drop the game in the next few days, then we can expect consistent updates and balance patches to refine the experience. Sure, the game isn’t another Elden Ring or Dark Souls; it’s different, but that doesn’t undermine the game’s merits.

Plus, the idea of people playing a Souls title with each other and defeating bosses together is pretty damn exciting. While we already know that PvP is never making its way to Elden Ring Nightreign, duo-support is coming soon, as the game’s director confirmed they are considering it for post-launch support.

As for From Software’s future, they’re currently developing The Duskbloods exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. Whether this title will be making its way to other platforms is currently unknown, but we can only hope, as it’s the closest thing to a Bloodborne sequel we’ll ever have.

Elden Ring Nightreign is now available on all platforms.
