Nightreign Is Making Everyone Realize Hidetaka Miyazaki Is Anything but Predictable

When it comes to FromSoftware games, most of us know by now that nothing is ever as it seems. But even with that mindset, Elden Ring Nightreign is throwing curveballs at us. And it’s most likely because we thought it’d be similar to Elden Ring since the two share many traits. But they are very different.

The game’s tutorial puts us against a familiar opponent. And seeing Morgott at the end of the start of the game, most of us probably thought it’d be just as simple as the fight in Elden Ring, but we couldn’t be more wrong. Hidetaka Miyazaki is a genius for making us think we know what’s coming when we really don’t.

Morgott is back in Elden Ring Nightreign, and he wants revenge

FromSoftware fans know the drill: die, learn, try again. But in Nightreign, even that expectation is subverted. We are quickly finding out that the version of Morgott we face in the tutorial of Elden Ring Nightreign is out for revenge. Fighting Morgott was relatively simple in the original game, but now he’s giving everyone an especially tough time.

This is just another chance to witness the genius of Hidetaka Miyazaki. FromSoft has never given us a spin-off like this before. And since most of us are veterans on Elden Ring, we probably went into this game with expectations that it’d be easy and more of the same. But it seems like there’s more to it than just that.

When we first saw the details for Elden Ring Nightreign, we all thought, Is FromSoft really doing a multiplayer game? But the game has quelled our doubts. The launch has already attracted over 300,000 Steam players within its first day, making it one of the year’s most successful multiplayer launches despite being very different from its predecessor.

What’s clear is that Hidetaka Miyazaki and the FromSoftware team aren’t going to just let us beat the new game with our existing skills and experience from Elden Ring. Nightreign introduces unpredictability into every corner of its design, and Morgott/Margit is the perfect example.
