But despite all our combined efforts and desires, the dream of Star Wars Battlefront 3 seems dead in the water. At least if you’re only looking at EA. The publisher recently announced to the public that its focus would be on just a handful of IPs. Star Wars is not on that list, so we can assume that another Battlefront game is completely off the table. But that’s not necessarily the full picture. While EA may have given up in a lame way, the door is still open for another publisher and studio. After all, EA doesn’t own Star Wars, we just need the right developers. Battlefront 3 could be made, but it won’t be from any EA studio Earlier this week, EA canceled its ****** Panther game and shut down Cliffhanger Games, the studio leading its production. The announcement was delivered via an internal email (via This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up ) from EA Entertainment president Laura Miele, who clarified that the company would now be focused on specific IPs and projects. That list includes Battlefield, The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was one of the best games I’ve ever played, and with more players playing the game now, I believe that it’s time for this to happen. The company has endured multiple rounds of layoffs since 2023, with nearly a thousand employees cut across Respawn, Cliffhanger Games, BioWare, and others. Yesterday, Senior Designer Patrick Wren revealed in a This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up on Bluesky that morale was at “an all-time low.” So, where does that leave Battlefront 3? Despite what this news might suggest, the franchise isn’t locked away in the Electronic Arts vault forever. The company does not own Star Wars or the Battlefront name. Those rights belong to Lucasfilm Games, which is now free to license the property to other studios. We’ve already seen an example of this with Ubisoft‘s Star Wars Outlaws. Of course, starting from scratch would mean exactly that. EA owns the assets tied to the existing Battlefront games, like the maps, character models, and proprietary Frostbite engine tech. A new studio wouldn’t have access to any of that. EA has already gotten its chance with this Star Wars franchise This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Despite all this, some things are still moving forward. EA is keeping its partnership with Marvel alive, continuing work on Iron Man via Motive Studios. The third Star Wars Jedi game is still in development, and the publisher is maintaining its commitment to mobile and its sports division. If we look at it from a corporate standpoint, it’s understandable. But from a fan’s perspective, it’s infuriating. EA already ruined Battlefront 2 when it first came out because of the terrible lootbox system and other issues. But now that the game has made a comeback in 2025, and everyone wants the next game, the company is focusing on other things. What comes next for Battlefront depends on two things. Is Lucasfilm Games willing to greenlight a new game? And is there a studio that is bold enough to pitch an actually good idea that could get picked up? The road is long and uncertain, but the possibility is there. What do you think? Would you want to see a new Battlefront game from a different studio? Let us know in the comments!
