Hideo Kojima Requests a Favor From Robert Pattinson at Cannes, Hints at a Potential Collaboration With the Batman Star

Cannes Film Festival had its fair share of glitz and glamour, but one of the most interesting moments didn’t happen on the red carpet, it happened behind the scenes. Hideo Kojima, the legendary game creator, was short on tickets for an afterparty and decided to message Robert Pattinson for help.

Without missing a beat, Pattinson sent over the extras. It was a small favor, but fans immediately started connecting the dots. Kojima has a habit of turning friendly meetups into big collaborations, and with Death Stranding 2 almost here and his next game Physint, in early stages, the timing couldn’t be more interesting. Now people are wondering, is Pattinson the next big star to enter Kojima’s gaming world? Here is more on that!

Robert Pattinson and Hideo Kojima is definitely up to something! Fans are eager to find out!

Robert Pattinson might be known for fighting crime in Gotham, but when he’s not being The Batman, he’s just a regular guy who loves video games, especially Final Fantasy VII. So it’s no surprise that he and Hideo Kojima, one of gaming’s biggest names, would eventually cross paths.

At Cannes this year, that moment happened (although they did meet once in 2024, but this time was more meaningful). Kojima revealed on the TBS Podcast needed a couple of extra tickets to an afterparty and reached out to Pattinson, who happily helped out (via

Kojima has a history of working with actors he admires, Norman Reedus, Kiefer Sutherland, and even directors like Guillermo del Toro have ended up in his games. At Cannes, Kojima was clearly excited to see Pattinson, even snapping photos with posters of his new movie, Die My Love, (via

Fans noticed, and now they’re wondering if this was more than just a friendly meetup. Kojima’s next project, Physint, is being made with a movie studio and will mix gaming with film like never before. Pattinson’s a busy guy with many movies on the way, but a smaller role could be doable. Only time will tell!

What is Hideo Kojima currently working on?

Hideo Kojima may have become a legend in the world of video games, but deep down, he’s always been a filmmaker at heart. And now, after decades of sneaking through the shadows of Hollywood with game characters voiced by A-listers, he’s finally stepping into the spotlight with something that’s actually on film.

That’s right! Death Stranding, his weird, wonderful post-apocalyptic game, is getting a full-blown live-action film adaptation with A24, the indie powerhouse known for artsy hits and award-season darlings.

But Kojima isn’t stopping there. In classic Kojima fashion, he casually dropped some major news during an interview with

, that there’s also a Death Stranding anime in the works. Not teased, not theorized, but confirmed. Regarding the A24 film, he said,

While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival.

Kojima says he’s not just making a game-to-movie adaptation, but he wants to create a Death Stranding film that could win over people who aren’t familiar with the world as well, and stand on its own merit. Could Pattinson star in this?

For him, games and movies aren’t competitors, they’re two sides of the same coin. He believes the lines between them are already starting to blur and that, eventually, they’ll disappear entirely. That’s where his next big project, Physint, comes in, a hybrid PS6 title that’s part-game, part-movie, and fully Kojima. But it won’t be ready until around 2030. Fans are excited to see all that he has in store!
