WACA redevelopment gets huge $15m top-up, with structure works now complete

The State Government has allocated an additional $15 million in this year’s budget to top-up the WACA Ground redevelopment project as structural works have officially completed.

A ‘topping out’ ceremony was held on third level of the new state-of-the-art building which signified the completion of the highest structural point of the development.

The third level has panoramic views across Optus Stadium, Matagarup Bridge and the Perth CBD.

The project includes a new “boutique” multi-use sport and entertainment venue with 10,000 capacity, a 10-lane indoor centre, a six-lane outdoor pool and water slides, a public cafe, a community health and fitness centre, a revitalised museum and an all-abilities playground.

Sports and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti said the redevelopment would provide world-class community facilities and amenities for the growing population.

“We have a long and proud cricket history in this State, and this huge redevelopment of the famous WACA Ground will support our cricketers for many years to come,” she said.

Planning and Lands Minister John Carey shared Ms Saffioti views.

“It’s great to see progress on this landmark development, which along with the neighbouring new primary school, will be transformative for the east end of our city,” he said.

The project was jointly funded by the State, Federal Government and City of Perth in partnership with WA Cricket and Cricket Australia.

It was part of the $1.7 billion Perth City deal, aimed to ensure the long-term prosperity and liveability in Perth.

The redevelopment is on track for completion in November this year.
