The bridges were built with the interstate in 1959 and were about 14 feet over the highway. The clearance for modern bridges is 16½ feet to accommodate larger vehicles. The Beckman Road bridge plan The superstructure, or upper portion, of the bridge and its pier support are expected to be removed this year. No date for the work has been announced. Lanes on the interstate will be closed at times between the Girard and Fairview interchanges when the bridge is removed. Rolling traffic stops will also be needed to accommodate the work. The detour for Beckman Road traffic will remain in place until a new bridge is built. Traffic has been routed onto Tannery, Sterrettania, Keefer and Franklin roads.
