El Paso district attorney to discuss Phoebe Copas case

) — El Paso District Attorney James Montoya has scheduled a news conference for Thursday, May 29 to discuss the Phoebe Copas ******* case.

The news conference is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Montoya’s office said he will be making an announcement about the case.

Copas was accused of killing Uber driver Daniel Piedra in June 2023. He was driving Copas along U.S. 54 South when he was allegedly shot by Copas. Piedra died from his injuries several days later.

Piedra’s family will be at the news conference, the DA’s Office said.

Copas died after what is being called a “medical episode” on March 25. Copas had said she was fearful that she was being kidnapped and taken to Mexico. She was out of jail awaiting trial when she died.
