EA Scraps Open World ****** Panther Game That Could’ve Saved the Marvel Gaming Division

EA has been pretty much silent regarding titles like Iron Man, Need For Speed, and more. However, some light has been shed on their ****** Panther IP, but unfortunately, it’s not good news. Apparently, EA has shut down one of its studios, Cliffhanger Games, which was working on a ****** Panther game, which everyone was excited for.

The studio shutdown is followed by a series of layoffs, which have been happening in the industry quite a lot. It has also been revealed that EA wants to focus on a handful of its franchises, which include The Sims, Battlefield, and other titles that work for them. Despite all that, EA is missing out on a huge opportunity, as a ****** Panther open-world game could have been a massive success.

The story of Cliffhanger Games being shut down came from

, who cited the full story of what’s happening at Electronic Arts. It is said that an email was sent by EA Entertainment president, Laura Miele, regarding the shutdown of the studio. In Miele’s words, “these decisions are hard” when it came to shutting down the studio.

EA and Marvel had an agreement for releasing three games, among which the ****** Panther and Iron Man games were known. There is no news about what the third game is, or whether EA will be able to fulfill that requirement. Since the ****** Panther game has been cancelled, there’s no saying the mystery title could see the same fate.

The ****** Panther game was pretty anticipated as it was supposed to give an authentic experience of Wakanda through an open world. Moreover, it would have been an original story that encompassed Wakandan technology, heroes, and more. All of which sounds exciting, but EA chose to throw it all away in the blink of an eye.

Still, it is suggested that the Iron Man game is seeing steady support at Motive, which does keep some hope for EA-collaborated Marvel games. But their decision to throw away one of the most anticipated titles, to save some old IPs, is questionable.

The Sims already has huge competition after the release of InZoi‘s early access. Moreover, the new Sims game seemingly doesn’t attract the fans after they saw some leaked footage. Why save something that is a deadbeat? Is it another EA’s greedy move, who knows?

What’s the game plan of EA moving forward?

EA’s current focus is to put all the creative energy into “the most significant growth opportunities.” Not only that, but there are reports that EA has laid off some of its workforce, but there are no exact numbers. However, in the words of Miele, they are working to provide those individuals opportunities as it affects them a lot.

They affect people we’ve worked with, learned from, and shared real moments with. We’re doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we’ve had success helping people land in new roles.

There is pretty regular stuff, companies say, after laying off. To what extent it would be followed will always remain a mystery. However, it is said that EA had made sure that some alternative is given to the affected employees through their placement programme. Leaving some hope for the talented folks there.

Efforts will be given for selected IPs like Battlefield, The Sims, Apex Legends, and some of their famous titles. There’s no news regarding the Need For Speed franchise as well, since Unbound didn’t do so well either. Support will also extend towards EA Sports releases as well, so they’re in the safe zone for now.

Do you think EA’s decision to cut off a major studio for supporting their “handful of games” will work out? What games do you think EA should be focusing on more at the moment? Let us know in the comments below!
