There Was a Scenario Where We’d Have “Backed Off” from Making Red Dead Redemption 2

It’s been almost seven years since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, and it’s still hailed as one of the greatest video games of all time. It serves as a prequel to the story with Arthur Morgan as the focus, taking players back to the tail end of the Wild West Era.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has amassed millions of fans worldwide thanks to its incredible gameplay, stunning visuals, attention to detail, and compelling story. However, what many might not know is that Rockstar Games almost backed out of making this masterpiece at some point.

Rockstar Games nearly abandoned Red Dead Redemption 2

Back in 2018,

had the opportunity to sit down with Rockstar Games’ co-founder Dan Houser and chat about the development of Red Dead Redemption 2. He highlighted the various challenges faced by Rockstar during the development phase and how it overcame those odds to produce a fantastic game.

During the interview, Houser revealed that when Rockstar started working on Red Dead Redemption 2, it aimed to create an authentic Western experience. However, if the studio had known how much work would be required to realize this dream, Rockstar would have walked away from the project.

If we’d known how much work it was going to be then maybe we’d have backed off.

However, once Rockstar committed to the project, it was determined to make things work and enjoy the work. It ensured that every aspect of Red Dead Redemption 2 was equally polished. It took the development team years and thousands of hours, but they crafted a game that lived up to their expectations.

One might say that Rockstar Games could’ve given Red Dead Online a bit more love. However, Rockstar has likely learned from its failures and plans to bring something in future entries that can keep up with GTA Online.

We’re just days away from the release of Nintendo Switch 2, and while it’s been plagued with controversies, fans can’t wait to get their hands on the console. It has a strong lineup of games so far, with big names such as Cyberpunk 2077 and The Duskbloods. However, it seems like even Red Dead Redemption 2 might join its roster.

According to

, Red Dead Redemption 2 could arrive on Switch 2 later in 2025. Even Nintendúo has revealed the same information, which adds to these claims. There’s no specific release date so far for when the port could drop on Switch 2. However, whenever it is released, it’s going to be a big win for the system.

It’s also been revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 is all set to receive a next-gen upgrade patch that will allow it to capitalize on the hardware of PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles. This update could drop at the same time as the Switch 2 port.

With that said, do you think Rockstar should bring more updates for Red Dead Redemption 2? Let us know in the comments below.
