A New Vegas Plot Hole Has Created a Brutal Divide Within the Fallout Fanbase

Most of the gamers would agree that Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best entries in the post-apocalyptic franchise. Even though it’s been a decade since the title’s release, the fact that gamers continue to return to it proves its enduring quality. Obsidian Entertainment’s unique RPG mechanics in the game combined the best of old-school Fallout games alongside new innovations.

One of the best aspects of New Vegas is its unique plot. The game doesn’t follow the story of a Vault dweller like other titles. Gamers play as a Courier who travels through the post-apocalyptic Mojave desert in search of men who have wronged him. While it’s a beloved storyline, gamers have uncovered a new plot hole within it, sparking a massive uproar and a major divide within the Fallout community.

Why didn’t the NCR use Vertibird in Fallout: New Vegas?

Recently, user PurifyingElemental took to r/Fallout and asked why the New California Republic (NCR) didn’t simply fly a Vertibird over Caesar’s Legion camp and bomb it to oblivion in New Vegas. It might sound ironic, but if you think about it, it’s quite reasonable.

Let’s not forget that NCR’s military has access to tons of pre-war technology, including the Vertibird. Since Caesar’s camps are located directly across the river from Hoover Dam, why not use one of the Vertibirds to eliminate the threat? Some in the community believe that this is an obvious loophole that should’ve been properly addressed.

However, a few in the community have stepped in and provided the explanation for why NCR didn’t simply bomb Caesar’s camps using Vertibirds. According to them, it’s not known how many Vetibirds the NCR has under its command beyond the Bear Force One. There’s a chance that there could only be one or two operational aircraft. There’s absolutely no way NCR could afford to lose one of these in a risky assault.

Vertibirds aren’t simply designed for the purpose of doing bombing runs. Their main job is to provide transport and support. One might think that Caesar’s Fort may seem compact in New Vegas, but going by the lore, they’re several times the size we see. A bombing run using Vertibirds would prove to be ineffective.

While the Legion is mostly known for its meelee and low-tech weapons, there are several high-ranking soldiers and veterans who could be armed with advanced weapons such as anti-material rifles, AP rounds, and even rocket launchers. These can outright delete any airborne target around the camp.

Although there might be some plot holes in New Vegas, it’s still a well-written game. Even Todd Howard and his team haven’t come close to making a game like this, which is quite a surprise, considering that New Vegas was just a spin-off.

New Vegas owes its legendary status to industry veteran John Gonzalez. After finishing his work on the Fallout spin-off, he went on to work for all of its DLC packs. However, he decided to leave Obsidian Entertainment in February 2011 and joined Monolith Productions.

However, after almost 14 years, Gonzalez has

that he’s returned to Obsidian Entertainment, and now serves as the studio’s Creative Director. This revelation led many to believe that we could now see a successor for New Vegas. However, Gonzalez has confirmed that he has no plans to develop a New Vegas sequel.

That’s unfortunate, but there seems to be a Fallout 3 remake in the works. At least there’s something new coming for the post-apocalyptic franchise in this decade.

With that said, why do you think NCR didn’t bomb Caesar’s camps using Vertibirds in Fallout: New Vegas? Let us know in the comments below.
