I was a happy lad enjoying Rockstar-made games on PC when I was young, but I’m sure I was not the only one. It was wrong in certain ways, but there’s a reason why Grand Theft Auto has a huge fan following. Everyone has nostalgia attached to it, which makes the franchise special to many. However, once the PlayStation 3 era began, I soon came to a wild realization. There’s a little tradition that Rockstar Games has followed since the PlayStation 2 era. They’ve always delayed their games by one year whenever they release for the PC platform. I don’t want This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up to be my go-to once the new game releases! Rockstar has delayed PC releases and kept consoles as a priority This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up PC. | Image Credit: Rockstar Games The curiosity began when Rockstar released GTA 5 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox One. I looked everywhere on game store shelves for a PC version, but saw none. Thus, the search began on the internet, and I saw an interesting trend that many didn’t realise sooner. Maybe people need this reminder with the GTA 6 release on the horizon. Ever since Grand Theft Auto 3, Rockstar has not released a single game on the said release date for all platforms. It has always been consoles first and PC later. Why do they give exclusive treatment to consoles? We all know PCMR is the most supreme platform for gaming, so why be left out? Initially, I thought maybe they have an exclusivity contract with consoles to give them good sales, thanks to some rumors. But they were false, and just a blatant internet theory to catch some attention. Coming down to the question again, why are they doing it? It doesn’t make sense. Surprisingly, I got blessed with an This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up by PCGamesN back in December 2023. Thanks for feeding my curiosity. The interview featured an ex-Rockstar dev, who highlighted that PC versions were not on their priority list. Mike York, a former animator for Rockstar who worked on Grand Theft Auto 5, revealed why PC gamers are of lesser priority. Honestly, it is not much of a surprise, but it makes sense. Maybe they’ll do the same for GTA 6 as well. The reason why a PC port comes later and why it’s not the first thing that comes out, is because they want to prioritize what sells. In the past, PlayStation was the big seller. What the developer would do is focus all their energy on making sure the PlayStation port worked really good… We put all our energy into that and optimizing it the best we can for that console. PC ports have been of lower priority because Rockstar has a small team, and it’s hard to work on all of them at once. Moreover, releasing the games on consoles first is more profitable as they give immediate results. Letting Rockstar recover and keep the company running so that they can keep working. It’s not so bad to receive GTA 6 for PC later on You might say I’m coping, but in some ways, it is good that Rockstar delayed the game for PC. Many developers have messed up PC ports by releasing them at the same time as consoles. Moreover, it does feel good that consoles are only seen as cash cows for Rockstar. PC players are actually provided with a more polished game, as they get more time. For instance, Red Dead Redemption 2 looked more impressive than its console alternative. Moreover, it is not locked at 30 FPS, which consoles are stuck with, and they complain about it, too. If Rockstar wishes to keep the PCMR happy with a superior-quality game, then be my guest. When I was young, I felt like having the latest and greatest was a privilege. Now that I value quality over quantity, things are more bearable. Still, to a certain extent, it does feel bad to be left out. I’m not complaining, but the feeling remains, and many PC gamers probably feel the same. It’s better if Rockstar doesn’t repeat this pattern with GTA 6, as it is the most anticipated game of the decade. There are risks of spoilers, too, which none of us wants. So please, Rockstar, break out of it for once. Are you Grand Theft Auto fan on PC platform? Do you feel the same way about Rockstar delaying their games for the platform? Do you think GTA 6 will repeat the same mistake?
