Beaten Brazilian Beatriz a rare boilover in Paris

The women’s seeds have found the red clay to be fertile ground in the opening round of the French Open with only two of the top 25 being eliminated to date.

Beatriz Haddad Maia (23) followed Emma Navarro (9) out of Roland Garros on Tuesday but the elite were otherwise unscathed.

Also progressing were American second and third seeds Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, past Australia’s Olivia Gadecki 6-2 6-2 and Romanian Anca Todoni 6-2 6-4, respectively.

Polish 25th seed Magdalena Frech defeated Tunisia’s former Wimbledon and US Open runner-up Ons Jabeur 7-6 (7-4) 6-0 while Russian sixth seed Mirra Andreeva eased past Spain’s Cristina Bucsa 6-4 6-3.

Czech No.14 seed Karolina Muchova was due on last on Court Simonne Mathieu to face American Alycia Parks.
