Dardanup Horse and Pony Club hosted an equine competition earlier this month

The Dardanup Horse and Pony Club hosted an equestrian competition, which included dressage, showjumping and cross-country entries from people across the State.

The two day event was held at the Dardanup Equestrian Centre on May 3 and 4, and featured competitors from grassroots pony clubbers to experienced level one participants.

Dardanup Horse and Pony Club committee member Tegan Piacentini said the event was especially important for racehorses who were no longer racing to be involved in a competition.

“It’s always rewarding to see retired racehorses performing confidently across disciplines,” she said.

“Events like this are so important in giving them opportunities in their second careers — and helping riders build strong partnerships with these amazing animals.”

Ms Piacentini said the event was both inclusive and professional.

“Our goal was to keep costs down while still delivering a standout experience, and the support from Racing WA helped us a long way in achieving this,” she said.

“We were thrilled to see such a diverse group of riders come together in such a supportive and well-run event. It really reflects the spirit of our club and what we want this event to stand for.”

The Racing WA Community Fund provided a grant for the event which helped make it more accessible by lowering the entry costs.

Racing WA chief racing officer David Hunter said it was important to have a broad demographic of competitors, including those from regional and remote areas.

“Keeping events like these affordable is key to supporting the next generation of equestrians,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to see so many retired racehorses thriving in their second careers.”
