One of these interviews reveals a massive problem during the development faced by the game director Junya Ishizaki that would have been a piece of cake for Hidetaka Miyazaki. It is odd to see the renowned director not personally overseeing and directing a FromSoftware game. But it has happened before and has happened once again, all because of the same reasons: Mr. Miyazaki was seemingly already busy with another project at hand, that too, a collaborative one. The fact that these games are insanely difficult is bound to come to mind. All thanks to the renowned director forming a direct connection with these titles’ storylines, with the increased and intense difficulty. However, as Elden Ring Nightreign takes a step into the world of multiplayer experiences, one of the first for FromSoftware, that is, tackling the difficulty balance in the game became a bit trickier, as Junya Ishizaki reveals in an interview with This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up : Of course, game balance was a large part of it. Balancing and tweaking the game difficulty is always a large challenge when it comes to these games, along with responding to user feedback and incorporating that into the game as well. So we’re continuing to look at that, but it was generally interesting to see player behavior, and get some good feedback from how players played the game and interacted with the systems. For more context, this particular statement from the game’s director came after he was asked about what lessons the studio was able to learn after receiving player feedback during the closed network tests. Ishizaki then discloses how this feedback gave more insight into how FromSoftware needs to work more on balancing the difficulty and the game as a whole. The whole dilemma of Elden Ring Nightreign possibly being too hard, or maybe too easy in some key areas, would not have been a problem for Hidetaka Miyazaki, and that is because the director has been straightforward with his policies regarding how difficulty is more than just a mechanic in his titles. Granted that the upcoming game is a multiplayer title, I do still believe Hidetaka Miyazaki, with his decades of experience in managing and tweaking around the Souls genre to perfection, wouldn’t have let the dilemma arise in the first place. Currently, the director seems to be busier with The Duskbloods, another upcoming FromSoftware multiplayer title that will be exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch 2 and is being directed by Miyazaki himself. Maybe after freeing up from there, he can scoop up some of his expertise and pour it over to Elden Ring Nightreign, improving its post-launch updates and consistency. Elden Ring Nightreign will be officially released on May 30, 2025, and available on PC, Xbox One/Series S/Series X, and PlayStation 4/5.
