I’ve Figured Out Why Ultron Mains Will be Hardstuck Silver

I’ve been watching early access streams of Marvel Rivals Season 2.5, and I need to break some hearts. That shiny new “Ultron main” flair you’ve been sporting on the official subreddit since early May? You might want to reconsider.

NetEase has dropped the ball—and they have dropped it hard. After seeing content creators struggle with our favorite mechanical overlord, I’m convinced most players are setting themselves up for ranked disappointment.

The hype was real—everyone expected a game-changing Strategist who’d shake up the meta. Instead, we got a character that feels like he needs a software update before launch day.

Why Ultron feels more like a malfunctioning toaster than a world-ending AI

The fundamental problem isn’t that Ultron is weak—it’s that he’s confusing. NetEase clearly wanted another role-blurring Marvel Rivals character like Mister Fantastic, who technically fills the Duelist slot but plays more like a tank. We all know how that experiment turned out.

The healing output of Imperative: Patch feels like putting a band-aid on a bullet wound. Content creators testing him describe the healing as “barely noticeable” compared to actual Strategists like Luna Snow or Mantis. And it doesn’t help his cause either that his primary damage source, Encephalo-Ray, demands perfect tracking skills that most players simply don’t possess:

The community’s already catching on to the disappointment. That meme perfectly captures what I’ve been seeing in streams—his ultimate barely scratches enemies while Hawkeye casually outdamages him (along with every other hero on the roster) with basic arrows. It’s almost poetic how the “Age of Ultron” feels more like the “Age of Mediocrity.”

That comment hits the nail on the head. If you’re planning to heal your team with Ultron, you’re essentially griefing. His design philosophy screams, “I’ll hurt the ones trying to hurt you” rather than “let me patch you up.” The problem? He doesn’t hurt them enough to justify the trade-off!

The harsh reality of Ultron’s competitive viability

Here’s where things get spicy: Ultron’s a flying hero launching right when Punisher and Hela are getting buffed. Those hitscan heroes are about to become meta staples, which means our mechanical friend will spend more time grounded than a teenager who missed curfew.

A diabolical miscalculation on NetEase’s part, to be precise. They assumed flight would be overpowered and nerfed everything else preemptively. The result? A character who can’t heal effectively, can’t deal consistent damage (unless you’re “cracked”), and gets melted by the exact heroes receiving buffs in his launch

The Human Torch comparison stings because it’s accurate. Remember when Johnny launched as an underwhelming mess? NetEase eventually buffed him into viability (maybe a bit too much), but that took months. Ultron mains might be waiting until Season 3 for meaningful improvements.

The skill ceiling issue compounds everything. If you’re not consistently landing Encephalo-Ray beams while managing drone positioning and avoiding hitscan pressure, you’re dead weight.

Casual players expecting a straightforward Strategist experience are in for a rude awakening when they realize Ultron demands Zenyatta-level precision without Zenyatta-level impact.

What’s your take on Ultron’s early access performance? Do you think NetEase will buff him before launch, or are we stuck with another underwhelming release? Drop your thoughts below!
