May, 20, didn’t suit up for the Lions days out from the draft on Wednesday, with several clubs including North Melbourne interested in the 198cm forward. The 20-year-old joined Subiaco this off-season from Richmond’s VFL side and has kicked 12 goals in six games, while also averaging 14 disposals, six marks and three tackles. May impressed with two goals for the WAFL in their breakthrough win over the SANFL earlier this month to further solidify his credentials as an AFL prospect. He is one of 45 WAFL players who have nominated according to a list obtained by The West ***********, while he has also put his hand up for a minimum 18-month contract. Peel Thunder premiership defender Michael Sellwood is a strong chance to get drafted after getting interest from No.1 pick holder Waalitj Marawar (West Coast). The Western Bulldogs put Sellwood through a medical last week and Yartapuulti (Port Adelaide) met with him on Friday while they were in Perth to face Walyalup (Fremantle). Ruckmen Lachlan Blakiston (East Fremantle) and Ollie Eastland (Claremont) have both attracted interest from Essendon, as has West Perth midfielder Kane Bevan. It comes as the Eagles are set favoured to take Richmond VFL half-back Tom McCarthy, who like May also sat out his game this weekend, not playing against Essendon. They will only have one pick with premiership hero Dom Sheed on the club’s inactive list after sustaining a season-ending knee injury in the pre-season. Collingwood are interested in their VFL midfielder Josh Browne, who played 32 games for West Coast’s WAFL side before he moved to Victoria to play for Williamstown and then the Magpies. Last year five WAFL players were picked up in the mid-season rookie draft in Jacob Blight (Richmond), Darcy Craven (Brisbane), Jasper Scaife (Hawthorn), Brynn Teakle (North Melbourne) and Luker Kentfield (Melbourne). Clubs have until Tuesday to finalise the vacancies on their list when the order will be decided. Players need to have nominated for and been overlooked in last year’s national draft, have been previously listed by an AFL club, or played a minimum of three games in the WAFL, SANFL, TSL or VFL to be eligible.
