With 3-5 more inches rain possible, where could Nashville’s all-time May rank?

Daily rain chances are forecast from May 24 to May 30 in Nashville, which could bring 3-5 more inches of rainfall in locations on top of well over normal totals already fallen during the month.

There has been 6.26 inches of rain in the month as of the morning of May 24 at Nashville International Airport, according to the National Weather Service. That total is already 2.40 inches above normal for May, according to the weather service.

Clarksville has measured 7.02 inches of rain in May, which is 3.25 inches above normal for the month.

Where could Nashville’s May rank?

The forecast could threaten to put Nashville close to or surpass double-digit rainfall totals in May, which has happened three times, according to National Weather Service date.

The record is 2010 when the Nashville Flood occurred. The total rainfall amount in Nashville in May 2010 was 16.43 inches. That included 13.57 inches of rain on May 1-2. The rest of the top 10 rainfall totals for May in Nashville according to the National Weather Service are:

10: 1978 – 8.03 inches.

The threat for severe storms is low over the next week. But periods of heavy rain with strong winds are possible and flooding will have to be monitored with repeated rounds of rain on top of saturated ground, according to the weather service.

May 24: A 30%-80% chance of rain. High temperatures 68-73.

May 25: A 70%-100% chance of rain. High temperatures 70-77.

May 26: A 60%-80% chance of rain. High temperatures 72-79.

May 27: An 80%-90% chance of rain. High temperatures 72-81.

May 28: A 30%-60% chance of rain. High temperatures 77-82.

May 29: A 20%-40% chance of rain. High temperatures 74-80.

May 30: A 40%580% chance of rain. High temperatures 73-79.
