WAFL 2025: West Perth’s blockbuster forward continues to hurt much wounded eagles side

West Perth spearhead Tyler Keitel has continued his love affair with pounding on West Coast, kicking six goals in an 57-point thumping on Saturday evening.

Keitel went into the game with 48 goals in 11 matches against the Eagles including six in each of their two meetings last year and 10 against the side in 2022.

The four-time Bernie Naylor medallist was ruthless, proving too good for Eagles defender Rhett Bazzo to lead the Falcons to a vital 17.10 (112) to 8.7 (55) victory at HIF Health Insurance Stadium.

While Keitel was in hot form, at the other end Eagles forward-ruck Jack Williams did his hopes of an AFL recall no harm with four goals of his own.

The first quarter treated fans with a high scoring match, with Keitel kicking a hat-trick of goals within the first 16-minutes of the game.

Eagles rookie Coen Livingstone booted two to keep the visitors within 13 points at the first break.

The second and third quarters welcomed heavy rain which proved difficult in important marking opportunities on both sides, with players desperately doing whatever they could to get the ball forward.

West Perth’s five-time best and fairest Shane Nelson showed class with 34 disposals including 18 kicks and four score involvements.

Livingstone took a huge mark in the forward 50 in the first and went back and kicked a goal finishing up with two for the night.

West Coast struggled for the remainder of the night, letting West Perth find forward targets far too easily in the forward 50, which allowed the game to get away from them.

West Perth’s Michael Mallard and Matthew McKenzie proved too good in the ruck with 40 hit outs between them.

Other notable players included West Perth’s Keegan Knott who kicked two goals and had three goal assists, as well as Jayden Rigdoll who had a game-high nine assists.

West Perth will now gear up to take on arch rivals East Perth at Sullivan Logistics oval on WA Day.
