Elden Ring Fans Have Zero Hopes on How Alex Garland Will Figure Out the A24 Movie

Elden Ring is one of the greatest games that has ever been created. The game is a mix of FromSoft’s typical unforgiving gameplay and a lore so convoluted that your PC cable management might look better if compared to the tale of how Marika is actually Radagon.

So when we heard that an Elden Ring movie is in development, that is being directed by Alex Garland, our jaws were on the floor, and apparently, we are not the only ones. Almost everyone in the Soulsborne community is skeptical about Garland bringing the entire labyrinthine story of the Lands Between to the big screen. Let’s delve deeper into this.

The Elden Ring lore is fragmented

Elden Ring is a visual masterpiece, to say the least. It has got everything from cool characters to breathtaking visuals, and the combat is also very fun (unless you count how many times you have died). But most of all, the game features a huge saga in the Lands Between, where all the characters are somehow connected to each other.

The game is created and written by both Hidetaka Miyazaki, who is popular for presenting the narrative using flavor text, and George R. R. Martin, who is popular for his epic fantasy novel A Song of Ice and Fire. Although this is one of the best collabs from a gamer’s perspective, making a movie out of one of the most overly complicated story games is probably a nightmare for a movie director.

On an X (formerly

We’re thrilled to announce that Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. and A24 are teaming up with writer and director Alex Garland to bring FromSoftware Inc.’s world-renowned video game ELDEN RING to life as a live-action film.

We’re truly excited to bring the world of ELDEN RING to…

While a lot of fans are skeptical about the production team even being able to chug the whole lore of Elden Ring into a movie, there are some fans who are excited about this endeavor, where they will get to see the dark, poetic beauty of the game in the theatres.

I have no idea how they’re going to make this work as a narrative, but with A24 + Garland attached, I’m all in for vibes alone. The game has such a strange, dark, poetic beauty to it that feels unlike anything we’ve seen theatrically.

Other Redditors from the post also mention how they cannot imagine Elden Ring working as a movie, but they are still hopeful about it and cautiously optimistic.

Adapting the game into a movie is a risky gamble

Although bringing Elden Ring to the silver screen sounds like an unimaginable task and an obvious wild idea, nonetheless, we are all excited to see how the Garland will bring the massive and beautiful (also confusing) world from your consoles to the theatres.

The lore of Elden Ring is not just a typical fantasy tale; it’s a sprawling cryptic world of shattered gods and ancient wars, and this lore unfolds in fragments, whispers, item descriptions, and even from the Latin songs sung by weird bat ladies. Translating that much amount of lore into a two-hour movie is like pouring an entire ocean into a teacup.

Even with all the complications, fans still have hope in Garland, who is known for his cerebral and atmospheric storytelling, and they aren’t just looking for a brief summary of the entire game; they want a proper film that captures the true essence of Elden Ring and the quiet tragedy that comes with it.
