The Most Underrated Call of Duty Game Confirmed One Mission Was an Homage to Infamous James Bond Movie

They became ghosts. Forgotten, always hunting and ever ready to kill. That was the iconic introduction of one of the best Call of Duty games of all time, Call of Duty: Ghosts.

From space missions to global apocalyptic war, thanks to weaponized satellites, Call of Duty: Ghosts was an underappreciated game that was released back in 2013. Gamers around the world were impressed by the iconic storyline, and the space missions were something crazy back in those days. However, they were clearly a homage to an underrated James Bond film, Moonraker.

Call of Duty: Ghosts paid a homage to James Bond’s Moonraker

Roger Moore portrayed the role of James Bond in a 1979 film titled Moonraker. The premise followed James Bond investigating the ********** of a United Kingdom space shuttle and uncovering a plot to wipe out humanity and replace it with a more advanced and master race.

Well, Call of Duty: Ghosts had a very similar plotline about a villain using a superweapon (called ODIN). The story is told through the eyes of Logan Walker and features one of the most visually iconic campaigns in the franchise.

However, when executive producer Mark Rubin sat down for a chat with

, he revealed that the game’s opening shot (the image above) was very obviously an homage to Roger Moore’s James Bond film, Moonraker.

That was a fun moment. It was an obvious nod, but without having to… Yeah! I mean most of the outer space battles could’ve been anything, not necessarily Moonraker, but that one opening scene of the astronauts coming out of the shuttle is a direct lift from Moonraker. It was there as a nod.

Although the Call of Duty franchise had dabbled with space missions before (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2), Ghosts took the gameplay and graphics to the next level.

During early conceptions of the video game, several questions were asked about how accurately it could depict warfare in space. People involved in the making of the game were concerned about whether fans would like this shift in tone from traditional Call of Duty games.

Guns work better in space than on Earth!

Well, it was a change in tone with Call of Duty: Ghosts when the first-person POV went to space and had a shootout in hopes of defending the space station. Not everyone was on board with the idea, however.

As the interview continued, Mark Rubin said that not everyone was happy with the tonal shift. Some people were skeptical about bullets’ authenticity and how they work in space.

However, the amount of detailing and scientific reasoning behind how a gun works in space was quite extraordinary.

Bullets work great in space. And guns fire in space just fine, they fire in vacuums because the oxidant to fire a bullet is in the gunpowder. It’s the saltpetre that’s in gunpowder that’s where the bullet gets all its oxygen from.

He continued,

So it can be in a vacuum, and you can fire really easily. So you can actually fire more efficiently in space than you do on the ground.

Despite the creators and developers putting so much effort into creating the video game, Call of Duty: Ghosts became an underrated gem in a long-reigning franchise.

Although the game had somewhat of a strong *****, the ratings weren’t too good, and the story was left incomplete. There have been numerous discussions and rumors about Call of Duty: Ghosts 2, but nothing confirmed can be said about it.
