Splitgate has quickly become one of the most popular shooter games on the market. The title can be best described as a free-to-play mash-up of Halo and Portal, introducing many new challenges and gameplay mechanics that help it stand out from the rest.

In a way, the progression of Splitgate to Splitgate 2 can be compared to that of Bungie’s Destiny 2 transition, which does bear with it a ton of similarities. In particular, both games managed to correct a fatal flaw that made them even more popular than the original.

One of the more prominent mishaps was the lack of a proper live service element in the first Splitgate. For the uninitiated, while Splitgate was a fantastic game in its own right, it did receive the short end of the stick compared to its competitors, at least in terms of content drops and updates.

Elaborating further on the matter, Proulx explained that the transition from Splitgate to Splitgate 2 was eerily similar to that of Destiny 2. After all, despite having made an impressive title, Bungie never managed to nail the live service element.

This was quickly corrected in Destiny 2, which features proper content drops and routine updates. Proulx learnt a lot from the first game and is making sure that these omissions do not happen in the sequel.

Splitgate 2 will feature proper live service elements and routine content updates. The team has already formulated plans for future content drops, and it will be exciting to see how the game evolves.

Admittedly, while he was unable to achieve much of these progression elements until quite recently (largely thanks to the smaller size and scope of the team, which contained only 15 members at first!), Splitgate 2 seems to be a grand time with many refinements to the beloved formula.

To say that Splitgate 2 is currently one of the most anticipated shooters in the market would be an understatement – the title has garnered an immense amount of attention, which is well deserved.

The original Splitgate started as a hobby student project for Ian, created during his days at Stanford. It is here where he rediscovered his passion for video games, making him combine two of his favorite franchises – Halo and Portal into one game.

The feedback he received on the initial demo was overwhelmingly positive, which pushed him to seriously consider developing it as a full title. Fast-forward a few years, and Splitgate 2 is set to release later this year (2025), backed by a team of nearly 200 members.

The sequel seems to be a *******, better version of the original without many of its flaws. The game is likely to be a hit, and its open beta will be released today.
