Final Outpost: Definitive Edition release date pushed back to next month

• You’ll need to wait a bit longer to enjoy a survival strategy zombie experience
• But don’t fret, because you’ll be able to enjoy it fully-formed with this time for extra polish

Sadly for fans of Final Outpost, it seems that it’s such an authentic zombie experience that it also embodies one of the most famous aspects of the undead. Being terribly slow, that is. Final Outpost: Definitive Edition has been pushed back, although only to June 12th, so you won’t need to wait too long for it to arrive.

While that’s going to be disappointing for fans, it wouldn’t really be fair to criticise Exabyte Games. Final Outpost is already a great experience for fans of zombie survival strategy, and the definitive edition promises to revamp that further.

That includes a bunch of major new mechanics. For one, you can now settle multiple outposts with each new map boasting modifiers that change weather, seasons and zombie behaviour! There’s also the appearance of the Trader, which adds an entirely new aspect to your survival attempts and lets you build a functional economy alongside your subsistence.

What Final Outpost lacks in visual flair, it more than makes up for in terms of depth. The core gameplay is very much the same, with you establishing a survivor’s outpost and managing the tasks of your individual members. Naturally, you’ll be contending not just with the living dead but also food, shelter and other necessities.

While it’s a shame that it’s been pushed back, it also means that we’re going to have the chance to play a proper, fully-formed version of Final Outpost that’s been fully polished and optimised.
