Bethesda really went overboard with one, giving players the most expansive and open-world setting for exploration. Its quests, story arcs, and mechanics are simply lovely. Even though Skyrim was a success story, game director Todd Howard still believes it had untapped potential. He’s often expressed his regrets about the RPG, particularly about not supporting the game for a longer duration. Fortunately, Howard has assured fans that Elder Scrolls 6 will not repeat this mistake. Skyrim‘s greatest mistake won’t make a return in Elder Scrolls 6 Back in 2024, This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up had an opportunity to chat with Howard about his passion for gaming. The Bethesda director answered a number of questions related to the studio’s future projects, potential remakes, and various other things. While chatting, Howard opened up about Bethesda’s plans to support Fallout 76. Even though the title was absolutely a hot mess at its launch, Bethesda has elevated the experience. Howard’s support for the game was driven mainly by his regrets about Skyrim and Fallout 4. We would look back at Skyrim, which we’re still updating to a small extent and there’s all the creations and mods there, still a hugely played game. Same with Fallout 4, that we wish we had supported them longer. Even though Howard believes Bethesda didn’t support Skyrim, the game had a bunch of post-launch DLCs. We saw expansions such as Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborne. There were even multiple anniversary editions. This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up Sure, Bethesda could’ve done more at the time, but no one in their wildest dreams could’ve imagined how relevant Skyrim would stay even a decade after its release. Howard confirmed that the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6 will be designed with a long-term plan in mind. He doesn’t want a game packed with content but an experience that players can return to even after years without thinking twice. The wait for Elder Scrolls 6 continues This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up is still years away from hitting the shelves. (Image via Bethesda Game Studios) Bethesda teased Elder Scrolls 6 all the way back in 2018 with a 36-second trailer. Since then, we haven’t heard much about the game. Although there have been confirmations of it being in the production stages, there are no screenshots, gameplay footage, or crucial information about its setting or characters. However, leaks from YouTuber This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up have given us some idea of what the RPG could feature. It’s reported that the game will be packed with tons of large cities, dragons, flexible leveling mechanics, and activity-based progression. We could also see the introduction of shipbuilding mechanics and naval battles. It is also rumored that the game will be set in Hammerfell, which might surprise a few fans. What’s really interesting is that, according to Extas1s, Bethesda might finally offer a glimpse into the game in July 2025. However, that seems unreal, as we know for a fact that the game entered active development after October 2023. It takes a lot of time and resources to develop modern games. The RPG will likely receive its first look in 2026, with a release somewhere in 2027 or 2028. With that said, how else do you think Bethesda can learn from its past releases?
