The Playground Cannon Might Just Be the Fastest Way to Take Down a Leviathan in Helldivers 2

The war for democracy is now the war for Super Earth in Helldivers 2. With the new Heart of Democracy update, the Illuminate started its invasion of Super Earth. And much like the other enemy factions, the aliens have brought new enemy types like the Leviathan.

Helldiver forces have immediately faced trouble going up against the Leviathans. Rest assured, traditional methods like recoilless rifles and anti-tank emplacements can eventually bring them down. But they require precise aiming, coordination, and time. Luckily for the forces of Super Earth, some players have discovered a much faster (and flashier) alternative.

Helldivers 2 players always find the most creative solutions

First introduced in the new Heart of Democracy update, Leviathans are some of the toughest enemies we’ve ever seen in Helldivers 2. Armed with eight laser cannons and protected by tank-grade armor, these floating death machines appear only on higher difficulty levels. You’ll also find them regularly orbiting major points of interest on the map before attacking.

Usually, to bring down big enemies, we attack their weak spots. But the Leviathan’s weak spot is on its underbelly, where there are three glowing weak points. Getting into position, though, is also a dangerous job. While Anti-Tank Emplacements and heavy support weapons can get the job done, fans have found a much cooler way to do it.

The Playground Cannon is a stationary, high-damage emplacement located in key mission zones, particularly in the Mega Cities, where the Leviathan tends to appear. While originally meant to take down the orbital motherships that hover in the distance, these cannons can be turned on nearly any airborne target. And yes, that includes the Leviathan.

But here’s the catch: many players have reported that the Playground Cannon becomes unusable once the orbital ship has been destroyed. This means that if you’re facing a Leviathan during the mission, take it down first while the cannon is still operational. As one Helldiver said, “Can confirm this. If you have a Leviathan in the area giving you grief shoot that first.”
