Pondsmith is credited with originating the Cyberpunk setting, being the sole author and designer of the 1988 tabletop system that launched the franchise. He worked closely with developers at CD Projekt Red on the first game, and is known to be doing the same on the sequel, codenamed Project Orion, although perhaps in a lesser capacity.
