White House says Trump was speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views when he said she was ‘no longer hot’

The White House has now responded to US President Donald Trump’s recent comment suggesting that Taylor Swift is “no longer hot.”

On Friday, May 16, Mr Trump posted on Truth Social, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?’”

It was the latest escalation in a months-long pattern of jabs at the pop star, which began in the lead-up to the 2024 US election.

But during a White House press briefing on Monday, May 19, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked, “What does President Trump mean when he says that Taylor Swift is no longer hot?”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt replied, “Look, he is speaking about Taylor Swift’s political views and how perhaps it has impacted the support of the American public for her work. I will leave it at that.”

During the election campaign, Swift publicly denounced the use of AI-generated images of herself in pro-Trump campaign materials and called out misinformation online.

Then, almost immediately after the first debate between former Vice President Kamala Harris and Mr Trump, Swift spoke out and endorsed the Democrat presidential nominee.

“Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight,” the singer wrote before asking her followers to do their research before deciding who to vote for.

“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” Swift said to her 283 million

Mr Trump, in turn, has repeatedly taken aim at the singer’s popularity and influence, using social media to question her appeal and political impact.

Swift has not responded to Mr Trump’s latest post or the White House’s comments.
