Katanning’s Quartermaine Oval officially reopened after $2.2m redevelopment, supporting regional sport

A big group of Katanning sports fans, shire councillors, and politicians gathered to celebrate the official reopening of the $2.2m redeveloped Katanning Quartermaine Oval on Sunday.

Originally built in 1990, predominately by volunteers, the refurbishment included a new playing surface, upgraded lighting, comprehensive levelling and improved drainage and reticulation.

Father and son, Kenny and Benjaman Quartermaine and shire president Kristy D’Aprile cut the ribbon to officiate the upgraded grounds while the Upper Great Southern Football League teams Katanning and Boddington lined up behind them before their game.

Cr D’Aprile said the transformation ensures a “safe, high-quality facility” for the community and “sporting excellence for generations to come”.

“Ageing infrastructure and persistent subsoil drainage issues, caused by the region’s notorious clay, signalled that it was time for significant renewal,” she said.

“This project is the culmination of years of planning, determination and strategic investment by council and its partners.

“Quartermaine Oval is more than just a sports ground it’s a central part of life in Katanning.

“This project is proof of what can be achieved when we plan carefully, work collaboratively, and invest in our town’s future.”

Cr D’Aprile applauded the hard work and dedication put into the project, which was delivered on time and under budget.

She thanked funding partners Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, the Western *********** Football League, Cricket Australia, and the shire.
